Currys’ Delivery force ‘snows’ no bounds

The UK’s biggest electrical retailer, Currys, has recruited the services of an outdoor delivery specialist in a trial to reach the worst snow hit areas of the UK.

Faced with arctic conditions, Currys’ different type of delivery driver is an extreme outdoor pursuits’ specialist who is trialling a way to carry on Currys’ home delivery service, even as temperatures hit record lows.

The snow delivery specialist’s first assignment was in freezing Aberdeenshire to help reduce the growing back-log of electrical goods waiting to be delivered.

Driving one of only ten quad bikes of its kind in the UK, Currys’ newly recruited snow specialist, Steven Greig, undertook his first delivery this weekend, facing sub-zero temperatures and traversing treacherous terrain to deliver his goods. Armed with a specialist set of equipment, a 42’’ TV was delivered safely to an address 50 miles north of the Aberdeen store.

Mrs Bowie of Banff and her children, who were all off school due to the snowy weather, were extremely excited to receive delivery of their new TV by quad bike. ‘There have been other attempts to deliver our new TV this week and we were just not sure when it would arrive because the conditions on the roads are so terrible. We are thrilled that have we now received it and that so much trouble was taken by Currys to get it to us.’

Across the country, Currys’ teams of dedicated delivery drivers have been going that extra mile to ensure all customers, where possible, are still receiving their essential electrical equipment. In Leeds, the Currys’ team made a one-off special delivery to an elderly lady who was without a cooker. In spite of difficult conditions, the team made the delivery within one hour. At the Alperton Currys’ store, a team member walked for two miles to make sure a delivery was made on time.

Steve Gibb, Director of Field Operations, Currys said: ‘Our team of delivery drivers across the UK have been doing a sterling job to ensure we endeavour to continue to offer a great service for our customers.  We have taken this one step further by enlisting the help of an outdoor terrain specialist to trial a new way of ensuring that the worst-hit areas are, where possible, still able to receive goods that have been ordered.’
